Eurasico

Eurasico ("You're a sicko") started when Jeff found a cheap fare from Helsinki to Singapore. Many frequent flyer miles, hotel points, emails and phone calls later, we had cobbled together a three week, multi-country adventure that couldn't be more random in its itinerary...SFO-SEA-FRA-HEL-AMS-SIN-DPS-SIN-AMS-HEL-VNO-FRA-MEX-SFO/MSP. To start at the beginning, scroll down to the end, and work your way up.

Pleasantville.

So nothing bad happened in Tallinn. We weren't asked to leave. But everything we read about Tartu made it sound like it might be more our speed.

The moment we arrived here, we knew we had made the right decision to flee Tallinn early.

Tallinn is gorgeous and I'm sure we didn't see all there is to see, but it seems like it wants to be the L.A. of Estonia, while Tartu is happy to be the Cambridge, or maybe the Madison of Estonia.

It's home to Estonia's first and oldest university, is leafy and green with parks, easy to get around, with a good mix of restaurants and things to see. We loved it.

Our hotel was formerly an art school, so to honor that, the rooms feature art work from local artists. My room's mural was called "Local Talent." I thought for sure that they had mixed my room with Jeff's.

We tried Georgian food, which was rich, and delicious.

There were corn cakes with a salty cheese.

A crazy salad with pears, walnuts, pepperoni, green beans.

Beef in walnut sauce, which was rich but so good.

And a delicious spicy soup with four kinds of meat and olives. it did not photograph well.

We also visited the beer museum and brewery of A. Le Coq, the Estonian beer we've been drinking since we got here.

We LOVED our guide.

His breathing got a little labored climbing the stairs, but he seemed to take pride in telling the A. Le Coq story.

We hung on every undecipherable word.

Fortunately, there was a friendly Finn in our group who helped translate for us.

This copper kettle held 500 litres of delicious beer.

They also make juices and mixers.

Jeff wanted to take additional samples to go.

Okay, enough manly beer talk. It's time to go see Kylie in Latvia.
